Handicraft in Jaipur
The main artistic handicraft creations in Jaipur include wood work, metal works, blue pottery, stone carvings and leather ware etc. 

You can also see an exclusive range of jewellery, elegant paintings, gorgeous textiles that display the magnificent and royal artworks.

Stone Carving

The south west quarter of Jaipur is famous for stone carving and sculpture. You can see world-class quality of marble work with intricate design in Jaipur. 

Marble statutes of Hindu deities, human figurines, animals, carved marble bowls and exquisite vases are the best buys in Jaipur markets.  The sandstone carvings and ornamental stonework at the Amber Fort gateways and Hawa Mahal are the best show pieces in Jaipur. It is said that Sawai Jai Singh founded this place and named it as Silawaton ka Mohalla.

Metal Work

Brass work (White metal craft) is also famous in Jaipur. Two types of work are done on brass in Jaipur and they are lacquered brass and carved brass. People craft icons, animal forms, secular figures, mandaps, puja utensils etc. using white metal. You can also see other items such as jewellery boxes, candle stands that are beautifully chased with Mughal style and mimic the mellow look of silver.

Paintings

What makes the paintings in Jaipur so special is that they are made using natural colours derived from shells, vegetables, insects and minerals. The artists decorate the final products with powders of semi-precious stones and precious metals like silver and gold to make them more shining and beautiful. 

The quality of the paintings is that the colours do not fade away with time. The miniature paintings that feature Radha-Krishna, Rajasthani women and Mughal Kings etc. are the most demanding artworks of Jaipur. Crushed gem paintings, which is used for the lids of jewellery boxes, trays etc, are fixed on classic Rajasthan miniature paintings as well as paintings of gods and goddess.

Tie and Dye

Another famous handicraft item in Jaipur is the Tie and Dye, which is also called Bandhani. The colours that come in circles, dots, waves, squares and stripes are indeed very beautiful to watch.

You can see wide variety of cushions in eye-capturing designs like embroidered cushions, block-printed cushions, patch-work cushions and velvet cushions. Jaipur bags, which are decorated with mirror-works, patchworks, antique-beads, brocades and embroidery, are the favorite items of tourists.

Carpets

Handicraft in Jaipur

The magnificent city of Jaipur attracts visitors with artistically woven fabrics and carpets. The beautifully designed colorful fabrics fascinate tourists of all over the world and they make it a point to visit the city. There are many carpet centers in Jaipur like Kishanpol Bazaar, Maniharon ka Rasta, M.I Road, Bapu Bazaar, Jauhari Bazaar and Nehru Bazaar etc. that mostly undertake exports worldwide. There is a wide variety of carpets made of wool, jute, silk and several synthetic fibers in Jaipur. 

The carpets, which are made of cotton and are commonly known as dhurries, are the most popular carpet category here. It is easy to maintain. Namdas, the carpets made of wool are very soft and richly embroidered. It is usually available in white color. The Persian print rugs, the design and prints of which are inspired by Persian art and culture, have huge demand in the market.
