Anokhi Museum: An Unique Museum for Reviving Ancient Art of India
One of the must visit tourist destinations is the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing (AMHP) that is situated in the vicinity of Amber Fort. Anokhi is a brand that is operating across the globe in reviving our ancient art.
The Museum is situated in the three storeyed old mansion or haveli that has been restored by the founders of Anokhi in the year 1989 and they were also awarded with UNESCO’s ‘Cultural Conservation’ prize for the same.
It takes ten minutes by foot from the Amber fort to reach this museum. The museum interprets, collects, exhibits and preserves a wide range of Rajasthan’s famous art of block printing.
The museum also comes with fixed price shop from where the tourists can pick up fabrics, handcrafted books, cards as well as other curios which could be gifted to your loved ones.
The museum screens documentary films on block printing in its auditorium. The interested travelers can enroll themselves for a two day workshop where they get an opportunity to work with the artisans so that they can learn to make blocks and get it printed on the fabrics.
Similar to other crafts in the world, block printing also faces stiff competition from modern manufacturing. This problem is addressed by the Anokhi Museum where they strive to educate the specialists of textile as well as the general public.
AMHP also encourages the artisans to visit the museum and to have a glimpse of their work in inspirational and unique way. Through this museum the travelers from across the country and globe will gain knowledge on the art and also be educated about the need to preserve the same.
